Como House is the perfect location to delight in the Christmas season with an intimate musical experience closing out the Salon Series 2024. Enjoy a program of festive-inspired songs and arias, concluding with traditional carols to sing along.

Punctuating the majestic Como House festive spirit will be a stunning evening of opera arias in the ballroom, followed by light refreshments with 2024 Melba Opera Trust artists: Jesse Linke (soprano), Syrah Torii (mezzo-soprano), Aidan Hodder (baritone) and accompanist Sharolyn Kimmorley AM.

Join us for exquisite music, a look into the traditional Christmas atmosphere of the historical Como House and meet the artists.

Ticket inclusions: performance, brief insight to the history of Como House, light refreshments and the artist meet and greet.

This concert is presented by Melba Opera Trust and the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).

Como House is located in South Yarra, about 6km (4 miles) southeast of Melbourne. The closest train station is South Yarra, from which you can walk to Como House (about 15 minutes) or hop on the tram (no. 58) to Como Avenue/Toorak Road right nearby.

Jesse Linke

Soprano

Soprano Jesse Linke is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. In 2023 Jesse won the inaugural Opera Scholars Australia Art Song Award, and made her Victorian Opera debut, appearing in The Grumpiest Boy in the World. 

At the Melbourne Conservatorium she performed the role of Pamina in The Magic Flute. Most recently she debuted with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra as soprano soloist for Schubert’s Mass No.2 in G Major.  

 

Jesse is the recipient of The Amelia Joscelyne Memorial Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust.

Syrah Torii

Mezzo-soprano

Japanese-Australian mezzo-soprano Syrah Torii holds a Master of Music (Opera Performance) from the Melbourne Conservatorium, and she is a graduate of Melbourne Opera’s Richard Divall Emerging Artists Programme. In 2023, she won the Victorian Opera Emerging Artist Prize.  

 

Her credits include Idomeneo, Elektra, Cheryomushki, and the World Premieres of Galileo and The Butterfly Lovers (Victorian Opera); and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Melbourne Opera). In 2024, Syrah performed La Frugola in Il tabarro (Victorian Opera/Sydney Festival) and the roles of Suzy/Lolette in La rondine (Victorian Opera). 

 

Syrah is the recipient of the Paulette Bisley Opera Scholarship and the Eleanor Blakemore Opera Society Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust.

Aidan Hodder

Baritone

Baritone Aidan Hodder holds a Master of Music Studies from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, where he was a student of Margaret Schindler. In 2019, 2021 and 2022 he participated in the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program. Aidan made his professional debut in 2023 in State Opera South Australia’s G& S FEST, singing John Wellington Wells (The Sorcerer) and appearing in the chorus for The Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore. 

 

Aidan is currently the recipient of the John Wegner AO Opera Scholarship and the Max & Jill Schutz Opera Society Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust.

Sharolyn Kimmorley AM

Associate Artist

After studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Sharolyn Kimmorley joined the Music Staff of The Australian Opera and has assisted in the preparation of a vast range of works with many distinguished singers and conductors. In 1985 she became Principal Répétiteur for The Australian Opera and in 1987 was appointed Head of Music Staff. From 1994 to 1999 she was the company’s Artistic Administrator, following which she was Opera Australia’s Director of Music Administration until June 2003.  

 

Sharolyn Kimmorley is regarded as one of Australia’s finest vocal coaches and accompanists. In January 2009 Sharolyn became a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her work as an accompanist and the nurturing and mentoring of emerging artists.  

 

Sharolyn is currently Artistic Manager and Artist Advisor at Melba Opera Trust and recently joined the board of Victorian Opera.
