Advocacy Toolkit
A free resource to support individuals and communities to advocate for the protection of places of cultural heritage significance.
The National Trust runs a range of programs and projects aimed at supporting the protection of Victoria’s diverse heritage. Demolition by Neglect
Demolition by Neglect is ‘the destruction of a building through abandonment or lack of maintenance’. In 2013 the National Trust commissioned a report on the issue of demolition by neglect in Victoria. In 2014, with the support of the Heritage Council of Victoria, we facilitated a forum of planners and experts to formulate policy initiatives to deal with the issue at local government level.
Facadism
Facadism is the superficial retention of only the exterior face(s) of a building and the demolition of the remainder. The NTAV has produced a discussion paper highlighting the issues of this approach and providing policies and examples of how places can be re-developed without compromising on their heritage values.
