Discover Past Lives

Como House is a beautiful mansion and garden with a remarkable family history. The program explores the story of the wealthy pastoralist Armytage family who lived at Como from the nineteenth and into the twentieth centuries. Our costumed facilitators will introduce children to the complex social world of this time, exploring the different lives of the Armytage family and those who worked for them.

Discover Past Landscapes

People have been in Australia for at least 65,000 years. We know quite a lot about communities in the Deep Past – their technologies, food, resources and culture – and the landscapes in which they lived. But how do we know these things? This unique experience allows children to become immersed in archaeological thinking and provides opportunities for hands on exploration. During the session, children work together with their Dig Team to uncover and analyse artefacts in our simulated archaeological site and learn how to survey and read the landscape.

Stables of Como

Blending an elegant fusion of past and present The Stables of Como affectionately nicknamed ‘The Stables’, is one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets.

Enjoy a meal in the cafe or book a picnic to enjoy in the gardens.
