2024 Honorary Member Nominations

Each year, the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Board nominates individuals for Honorary Membership of the National Trust in recognition of their distinguished service to the organisation.

In 2024, the nominees are:

Annette Xiberras

Aunty Annette Xiberras is an esteemed Wurundjeri Elder and a founding, long-standing member of the National Trust Aboriginal Advisory Committee since its creation in 2014.

Annette has worked in the cultural heritage space for 38 years, acting as Chair of the City of Melbourne’s Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee and Chair of the City of Yarra Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee, as well as Co-chair of the Victorian Traditional Owners Land Justice Group and on the Board of directors for Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative. She was also a member of the first group of cultural heritage officers employed by Aboriginal Affairs Victoria in 1988.

Annette has a long and significant history in advocacy in heritage and land rights and is the Victorian Aboriginal community-elected chair of the Victorian Traditional Owners Land Justice Group. Aunty Annette has provided frank, invaluable and fearless advice across the operations of the Trust and informed the positive working relationships between the National Trust and Traditional Owner Organisations.

 

Kristin Stegley AM

Kristin has extensive leadership experience in the Victorian cultural, philanthropic and local government sectors. An arts educator for over 20 years, Kristin has been a local government Councillor, Trustee of several philanthropic Foundations, and a political activist. She has volunteered with the National Trust for many years to promote the importance and value of heritage to our cultural well-being. She has served as both Deputy Chair and Chair of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) from 2015 – 2022.

Kristin is the Founding President of the National Trust of Victoria Foundation. She believes, that with growth, support and time, it will become the major funding endowment for heritage purposes in the State and provide ongoing support of the National Trust. She also established the Trust’s bequest program, The Armytage Society, in 2012 and has stewarded its growth since this time.

Kristin has qualifications from Latrobe and Deakin Universities and The Study Centre for the History of Fine & Decorative Arts (London). In 2012 she was awarded an OAM and in 2023 was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to heritage advocacy and to the community.

How do I register to attend the AGM?

To register your attendance at the 2024 AGM at Pentridge Prison, please RSVP by 5:00pm, Friday 15 November at rsvp@nattrust.com.au  or phone (03) 9656 9889. 

How do I register an apology for the AGM? 

You register an apology with the office of the National Trust. To do this, please either email rsvp@nattrust.com.au or call (03) 9656 9800 and advise us of your apology. Your apology will be noted at the 2024 AGM. 

You must advise us of your apology by 11:00 am Thursday 21 November 2024. 

Will the Chairman and Board Directors be in attendance?

Yes, the Chair and the Board will be in attendance. Directors invite you join them for light refreshments following the formal proceedings 

When will I receive the Notice of AGM?

Important change to distribution of meeting documents. 

Members are advised that since 1 April 2022, there have been permanent amendments to the Corporations Act which enable dispatch of electronic communications for Annual General Meetings (AGM). Pursuant to this amendment, the 2024 National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Notice of AGM, supporting papers and proxy forms will be distributed electronically and available on our website. 

The 2024 Notice of Annual General Meeting, supporting papers and proxy forms can be downloaded at:

All members who have previously registered an email with the NTAV will be sent an electronic copy. 

By law, members may make a standing or an ad hoc election (whether or not in writing) to receive meeting documents: 

  1. in physical form (hard copy) or
  2. in electronic form (by email)

Members may also request that they not be sent the Annual Report including financial information. 

We encourage members to update their contact information and confirm if and how they wish to receive meeting information with our Membership department: membership@nattrust.com.au or (03) 9656 9830 

Will there be a virtual AGM this year?

There is no virtual element to the AGM for 2024. The AGM will be held in person only. Members can be assured that the event will be COVID safe, and will be adherent to any appropriate government directives at the time.  

Members will be advised should any changes need to be made to the meeting location or date.  

How to a lodge my Proxy form?

This process is performed the same as previous years. Please print and return or email.   

If you intend to appoint a proxy, such as the Chairman, to be effective, you must return your proxy form no later than 11.00am on Thursday 21 November 2024 to the following address:National Trust of Australia (Victoria), 6 Parliament Place, East Melbourne, VIC, 3002; or email the form tomembership@nattrust.com.au.

Where do I send my proxy form?

What time should I arrive on the day?

The property will be open from 10:00 am for Members to arrive.

We ask that you please arrive with enough time to be seated ready for the meeting to formally commence at 11:00 am.  

Can I get a printed copy of the 2024 Annual report?

This year we are providing members with access to a digital copy of the Annual Report. This will be published on the NTAV website on Friday 1 November 2024.  A digital copy will also be emailed to you this same day.

Can I access Pentridge Prison Tours via public transport?

Yes, follow these directions to Pentridge Prison using public transport:  

By Train

Catch the Upfield Line from Melbourne CBD (Flinders Street, Southern Cross, Parliament, Flagstaff or Melbourne Central Stations) and alight at either Coburg Train Station or Batman Train Station – from there Pentridge is a short walk. 

By Tram

Catch the Route 19 tram from Melbourne CBD (Elizabeth Street). North bound from the city, the Route 19 tram runs along Elizabeth Street, past the Queen Victoria Market, along Royal Parade (and past Melbourne University) and then along Sydney Road to Pentridge. 

North bound, alight at either Stop 34 (Bell Street & Sydney Road) or Stop 36 (Rodgers Street & Sydney Road) and walk to Pentridge. 

Is wheelchair access available?

The site is wheelchair accessible. The Warder’s residence has limited accessibility, with a small flight of stairs to the room where the meeting will be held.

Where can I park on the day?

At Pentridge, there is ample car parking available located under the Pentridge Shopping Centre.

Will there be Tours?

A guided tour of H Division will be open to attendees of the AGM following the meeting from 12.30pm. Please convene downstairs in the retail area for the start of the tour.
