Como provides opportunity to connect with the surrounding landscape, past and present
Open House Melbourne (OHM) provides the community with a free opportunity to discover a hidden wealth of architecture, engineering marvels and historic buildings nestled around the CBD and Cities of Port Phillip and Stonnington.
Built in 1847, Como House is an intriguing mix of Australian Regency and classic Italianate architecture, offering a glimpse into the privileged lifestyle of its former owners, the Armytage family. The Armytages became famous amongst Melbourne high society, particularly for their many elegant dances, dinners and receptions. Recent conservation works have uncovered new layers to the buildings exterior, and the gardens are a place of tranquility. Como provides opportunity to connect with the surrounding landscape, past and present, as a visit to the property on the OHM weekend will reveal.
Visitors are invited to explore the tranquil gardens and House (including the kitchens) whose exterior has undergone recent conservation works.
