Discover the hidden meanings of flowers through history, art and culture in Le Langage des Fleurs (The Language of Flowers), a captivating exhibition at The Heights Heritage House and Garden in Geelong.
Inspired by Charlotte de La Tour’s influential 1819 publication Le Langage des Fleurs, this exhibition explores the many ways flowers have communicated messages across generations. From expressions of love, remembrance and friendship to stories of migration, survival, utility and colonial histories, flowers reveal powerful personal and cultural narratives.
Presented throughout the historic rooms of The Heights, the exhibition brings together contemporary artworks by Halina Wolski, Charlie Gunn, Leesa Cowan, Dr Deanne Gilson, Jeana Blackhart, Billie Lime and Beatrice Dahllof, alongside works by Daryl Lindsay and other treasures from National Trust collections.
Visitors will have the rare opportunity to view collection items usually housed across Victoria, including material from the National Trust’s nationally significant fashion and dress collection.
By creating a dialogue between contemporary artistic practice, historic collections and the heritage house itself, Le Langage des Fleurs invites visitors to reflect on the enduring role flowers play in expressing identity, memory, culture and connection.
French translations accompany the exhibition throughout the festival period, while interactive elements encourage visitors to engage with their own stories and interpretations, creating a rich, immersive and multi-sensory experience.

The exhibition is running every Sunday from 1 November to 13 December 2026. Entry is via guided house tour.
Opening Weekend
An additional opening weekend will take place during le festival francais on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October.
