Luxury French decorative glassware collected by Claire Adams
Claire Adams was a collector of moderné glass of the 1920s and 30s. Designed by Rene Lalique and manufactured by his company, Claire’s collection includes many of the firm’s most well-known designs. Her time in Hollywood and Europe, as a famous silent movie star, influenced the way she renovated her home when she married Scobie Mackinnon and moved to Victoria. She chose the decorations for ‘Mooramong’ with a modern Hollywood flair, bringing many items, such as the Lalique glassware, to her new home from the U.S.A.
Rene Lalique (1860 – 1945) ranks as one of the most important and influential designers of the twentieth century. He began his career as a sculptor and designer of luxurious pieces of jewelry, and his designs spanned across two decorative arts styles – Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Lalique glass was one of the first decorative products to be marketed internationally. it was mass produced but still retained its luxury status.
