Periodically the Branch conducts guided walks around Ballarat, usually coinciding with the major festivals. Details of our most popular walks are outlined below. 

Walks can also be arranged for interested groups by contacting the branch. Walk times vary but generally take between one and one and a half hours to complete.

Lydiard Street North Walk

Commencing at the Burke & Wills Fountain at the Lydiard and Sturt Street intersection this walk takes in the former bank buildings,  the former barracks, the mining exchange,  the colonist club, hotels and theatres. The walk continues around to Mair Street and then past many fine buildings in Camp Street, culminating at the ‘Titanic’ Bandstand, built to commemorate the bandsman aboard the Titanic.

Lydiard Street South Walk

Commencing at the Burke & Wills Fountain at the Lydiard and Sturt Street intersection this walk heads south along Lydiard Street and takes in Her Majesty’s Theatre, Craig’s Hotel, the Anglican Cathedral, the former Ballarat Club and concludes at the former Gaol.

Art Deco Walk

A leisurely stroll around an Art Deco neighbourhood at the western end of Lake Wendouree. Many homes feature unique art deco features and many were designed by renowned Ballarat architect Herbert Coburn.

Soldier’s Hill Walk

This walk takes in an area just north of the Ballarat CBD. View homes built in the late Victorian era and many with intricate cast iron lacework. Learn about the murders, the fatal fires, carnivals and sporting achievements associated with this historic precinct of Ballarat.

Sturt Street Monuments Walk

A quiet wander down the centre of Sturt Street, admiring the many statues and monuments. Learn about poets, war veterans, royalty, a Eureka Rebellion leader and the Cenotaph.
