The City Nature Challenge is a four-day global bioblitz, where cities around the world take part in a friendly competition to record wildlife observations.
The National Trust are custodians of a diversity of sites from urban heritage gardens to remnant bushland, and we need your help! We’re teaming up with Councils across Melbourne to monitor biodiversity in our wonderful city.
During the City Nature Challenge, log your observations of uncultivated species (not planted or pets) to contribute to the Greater Melbourne City Nature Challenge during April 24th to 27th, 2026.
Sites include Rippon Lea, Como, Mulberry Hill, Endeavour Fern Gully, The Heights in Geelong, McCrae homestead, Gulf Station and Barwon Park mansion
Get involved
- Find flora, fauna or any evidence of wildlife around National Trust properties, which could be anything from a bird call to a photo of your favourite plant.
- Take a picture of what you find. Make sure you note the location of the critter or plant.
- Share your observations through National Trust’s iNaturalist page.
Your participation helps scientists gain a better understanding of our local biodiversity and how we can better coexist with nature.
This challenge will be running from 24 April until 27 April, however you can get involved any time at a National Trust property by uploading your images to the National Trust profile via the iNaturalist app.
