Supporting our visitors
Do you have a passion for history or are you a great communicator? Are you looking to utilise your existing skills or even develop new ones? You can help create a memorable experience for National Trust visitors across New South Wales.
We often have a variety of roles available, including:
- Tour guides
- Customer service
- Event support
- Hospitality
The National Trust relies on our volunteers to help bring heritage to life for the community and visitors through guided tours, open days and special events. As part of your induction, you will receive all relevant training and will have the chance to learn all about our incredible places.
Working alongside a passionate team, you will be providing a warm welcome to visitors at historic homes, world class art galleries, museums and beautiful gardens – each of which has its own unique story. You could volunteer at Cooma Cottage in Yass, home to the first Australian-born explorer, convict-built Old Government House in Parramatta, or Dundullimal Homestead in Dubbo which was originally a 10,000 hectare working property in 1836 and has survived in a near unaltered condition
As a tour guide volunteer, you’ll be playing a key role telling the stories of our heritage sites. You will be guiding small groups of visitors, including coach and school groups, sharing your new found knowledge and pointing out fascinating facts. Our special places make learning a fun and interactive experience to remember.
In a customer service role, no day will be the same. You will be providing a friendly welcome to visitors and helping them with general enquiries. You may be helping at our reception areas and retail shops, maintaining stock and processing sales.
The National Trust holds many events across the state, all ranging in size, including exhibition openings, fairs and markets, and Heritage Festival events. In an event support role, you may be assisting with the promotion, organisation and setup of these activities. Working in a hospitality role, you may also be helping at events, cafés or kitchens.
