A special thank you to all of our generous donors who helped us reach our appeal target of over $230,000. Important repairs and conservation work can now take place at Harper’s Mansion.
Built in 1834, Harper’s Mansion is a superb example of an early colonial Georgian country house. Perched on a high hill overlooking historic Berrima, Harper’s Mansion is one of the oldest buildings in the area and remains a fascinating time capsule of 19th century life.
CEO Debbie Mills said, “I want to personally say thank you to everyone who donated to our recent end-of-financial-year appeal for historic Harper’s Mansion in Berrima.
I’m delighted to confirm that your donation has helped us achieve our target so that we can make important repairs and improvements at this very special place.
You are truly helping us conserve historic Harper’s Mansion and ensuring this historic property continues to provide enjoyment to visitors and locals into the future.”
Local volunteer, and Chair of the Harper’s Mansion Management Committee, Richard Stafford said “Harper’s Mansion is a highlight in our small historic town of Berrima. It’s an important part of the Southern Highlands, attracting many visitors. The local community volunteers are passionate and generously give their time helping to maintain the property and gardens, as well as welcome visitors on the weekends.”
Donations to the appeal will enable the installation of critical drainage and irrigation systems to help maintain two acres of gardens, including one of the largest hedge mazes in the country. It also allows us to make the gardens more sustainable through matting and care for more than 100 heritage roses and rare 19th-century camellia cultivars. Donations will also help protect the archaeology on site, and commence essential internal property repairs and maintenance.
A full update on Harper’s Mansion will be published once works are completed. Sign up to our free newsletter to be the first to hear about it.
