Katherine Rooney's artworks are a celebration of landscapes and colours found in the magnificent Southern Highlands.
Katherine C Rooney is a contemporary landscape and still life artist based in Sydney. Inspired by the Australian landscape, her artworks are colourful and textured, capturing the changing light and mood of the sky and land with lush layers of acrylic paint.
Be it a fleeting colour of the sky, a shadow from a tree or the shape of a cow against the brightness of a sun-drenched field, the things that Katherine finds beautiful about the landscape are what inspire her work.
“To view something of beauty and respond by feeling something that is a contrast to conflict or grief or routines and stress causing a constant struggle in our normal day to day, a thing of beauty brings with it a relief to the mind and body. I’m on a mission to paint beauty that I find in the landscape of the Highlands.”
Katherine studied at the National Art School, Enmore Design Centre and the International School of Colour & Design. She has been a finalist in the Mosman Art Prize, and selected artist for the Salon Des Refuse 2017 (the alternative Wynne Prize exhibition). In 2023, she was a finalist in the Whitewall Art Projects art prize, ‘Into the Light’. Katherine’s artworks are held in private collections across Australia, Europe and the UK.
All works will be for sale and support the work of the National Trust (NSW).
