We often have a variety of roles available, including:
- Gardening
- Maintenance
- Bush care
National Trust gardens are as important as the buildings they surround and have their own stories to tell. Everglades House & Gardens in the Blue Mountains is the country’s most spectacular inter-war period garden designed by Australia’s ‘Master Gardener’ in the 1930s. Saumarez Homestead in Armidale is the heritage jewel of New England. The Edwardian mansion is surrounded by formal gardens and a collection of farm buildings, complete with original agricultural machinery, tools and equipment, dating back to the 1830s. Riversdale in Goulburn is picture perfect with a rich history that is full of inns and schools. Edward Twynam, the New South Wales Surveyor-General bought the property in 1875 and it remained the family home until 1967. The Colonial Georgian home stands within its original paddocks and outbuildings, surrounded by gardens.
As a garden volunteer you will have the opportunity to work in amazing places. Gardening work could include light pruning, weeding, maintaining paved areas, raking leaves, and creating new plantings.
Maintenance work includes care and cleaning of our heritage interiors as well as maintenance and repair of outbuildings and fences. During exhibitions, you may assist with hanging pictures and installing special objects for display.
While volunteering when the property is open, there may be opportunities to share your passion, knowledge and tips with visitors.
In a bush care role, you could be working alongside Australia’s pioneers in Natural Area Restoration. Established in 1976, the National Trust’s Bushland Management Services has a long-standing reputation for delivering high quality bushland conservation and biodiversity management services in the Greater Sydney region.
Everyone who dedicates their time and talent with the Bushland Management Services team will be guided by expert supervisors and trained to identify native species and undertake regeneration works. The team comes from diverse backgrounds, but all share a common love for the Australian bush.
