Behind the scenes
Do you love keeping things organised and working behind the scenes? Are you looking to utilise your existing skills or even develop new ones? We have roles across New South Wales in our historic houses and gardens, the National Trust Centre and branches.
We often have a variety of roles available, including:
- Administration
- Housekeeping / collection care
- Collection research
Our behind the scenes roles are the perfect opportunity to make new friends, give back to the community and not worry about being in a visitor-facing role. You’ll gain fascinating insight into how a leading conservation charity operates. You could uncover new skills or add to the ones you already have – all training will be provided. A typical day as an administration volunteer might include taking tour bookings, attending to enquiries, maintaining office filing systems, updating databases, helping with mailouts to members and assisting the preparation of reports and grant application administration.
The National Trust not only conserves and preserves built and natural assets throughout New South Wales, but we also play an invaluable role caring for more than 60,000 collection items. Working as a collections volunteer is a unique opportunity to be directly involved in the conservation of special objects, such as furniture, artwork, clothing, and more! Housekeeping includes cleaning and dusting of furnishings. Whilst caring for our collections, you will learn how to assess environmental conditions and how to inspect, protect and clean objects using proper conservation techniques. During exhibitions, you may assist with receiving loan objects and their installation. Under expert guidance, keen historians will have the opportunity to research the property and the collection items.
