The National Trust (NSW) is a proud supporting partner of the upcoming International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) General Assembly, an international conference of world heritage experts coming to Sydney from 31 August to 9 September 2023.
The National Trust welcomes the public and delegates to visit them at the ICOMOS 2023 General Assembly events below.
The partnership reflects the National Trust’s commitment to protecting heritage and empowering experts to share their craft. It’s also an opportunity to showcase NSW’s natural and cultural heritage, and the National Trust will be opening the doors of historic Everglades House & Gardens, Woodford Academy and Norman Lindsay Gallery to delegates as part of an official tour to the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
Visitors will have the chance to explore the fascinating history of Everglades House & Gardens – a Moderne-style 1930s house set amongst one of the most spectacular examples of inter-war period design gardens in Australia.. They can also take in the paintings and garden sculptures at Norman Lindsay’s former home, and discover the multi-layered history of Woodford Academy, the oldest complex of colonial buildings in the Blue Mountains.
National Trust (NSW) Chief Executive Officer Debbie Mills says “we are delighted to support the first ICOMOS General Assembly to come to Australia. We can’t wait to meet the many delegates and also welcome them to our very special National Trust places. We’re looking forward to this Assembly providing a powerful platform for heritage experts to meet, learn, and forge a new future for heritage conservation.”
The public are also welcome to attend select events that aim to encourage grassroots involvement with heritage. These include the traditional trades fair and heritage exposition at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour, as well as the heritage lecture at Sydney Town Hall, presented by the National Trust in partnership with Australia ICOMOS and the Committee for Sydney.
The ICOMOS 2023 General Assembly runs from Thursday, 31 Aug to Saturday, 9 Sep 2023.
The National Trust acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, celebrate and share the stories of heritage. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
