National Trust (NSW) launches Reconciliation Action Plan

The National Trust (NSW) is proud to launch our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), outlining our commitment to acknowledging, understanding and valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage. Alongside our work with First Nations people in the communities in which our properties are situated, we recognise our responsibility to inspire change, create connections and identify opportunities to platform Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories and histories across NSW. The RAP also ensures our advocacy includes a strong voice for the protection of Aboriginal heritage places.

A key purpose for developing the National Trust’s RAP is to ensure the diverse range of First Nations histories are told at our places, and that places of significance to Aboriginal peoples are managed with the inclusion of communities and Elders, and in accordance with current legislation. This will ensure our future success as a relevant, influential and respected organisation, that platforms Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories and histories.

The initial focus of the National Trust’s RAP will be to:

1. Embed an internal working group with Aboriginal representation, policies and processes for progressing and reporting on reconciliation actions.
2. Identify the next steps for the National Trust to improve partnerships and programs with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders.
3. Develop resources and information that can be shared with employees, branches, committees and volunteers.

The National Trust of Australia (NSW) acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the places in which we live, work and play. We recognise and respect the enduring relationship they have with their lands and waters, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
