National Trust helps save maritime history

The National Trust sought, as part of its three year Barangaroo campaign, recognition of Miller's Point rich maritime history, construction of a cruise ship terminal and removal of the proposed hotel from the harbour.

On the 2nd August 2012 Crown and Lend Lease announced an agreement to jointly develop a concept for a hotel resort at Barangaroo. Crown stated that the hotel is expected to be located “on a site to be agreed witht eh Governmetn on the north west corner of Barangaroo South adjacent to Sydney Harbour and Barangaroo Central.

The deep water wharf has been retained as a condition of approval, as a contingency against possibly restoring the maritime function of Barangaroo Central in the furture. Construction of the hotel on land in Barangaroo South will realise another achievement for the National Trust in the protection of this State’s remarkable heritage.
