A heritage strategy for NSW

The NSW Government is calling for your thoughts on a new draft heritage strategy.

The NSW Government has launched a new draft heritage strategy and is inviting your feedback. Join us in raising a voice for heritage and share your views by 13 July 2025.

Everyone is invited to share their thoughts via the Have your Say website. Simply fill out the survey, contribute an idea or make a written submission. This is an important opportunity for the community to contribute their thoughts on the importance of heritage and to help set a new direction in protecting the multi-faceted history of NSW for future generations. Following public exhibition, the strategy will be revised to incorporate feedback provided.

Putting heritage in the spotlight

The strategy comes at a critical time for heritage. Climate change and development are just some of the pressures threatening NSW’s heritage, which includes tens of thousands of years of Aboriginal culture and landscapes, natural heritage, historic buildings, gardens, archaeological sites, and intangible stories – histories that can’t be replaced once lost.

The National Trust (NSW) has been advocating for better protection of NSW’s natural, built and cultural heritage, and the Government’s commitment to a heritage strategy is encouraging.

The National Trust will be making a detailed submission, and we encourage all members and supporters to fill out the survey or share their feedback before 13 July 2025.

Without your input, the NSW Government may not hear all the stories from across the State – particularly regional areas that are rich with heritage and need support for ongoing protection.
