Discover the fiction that inspired Marie Byles, a trailblazing woman ahead of her time.
The first practising female solicitor in New South Wales, Marie Byles was a trailblazing woman ahead of her time. Not only did she pave the way for women in law, she was also an avid mountaineer, founding member of the Buddhist Society, a passionate conservationist and activist, and an author.
During her life (1900 – 1979), Marie travelled extensively, writing many books about her travels, the Alexander Technique, Ghandi, law and spirituality.
This talk, delivered by the National Trust (NSW)’s Archives & Library Manager, James Bosanquet, focuses on a very recent discovery of several fiction works that influenced Marie.
The Lost Books of Marie Byles is hosted as part of Sydney Rare Book Week.
