View works by Ros Craig, a resident artist based in her home studio in Leura in the Blue Mountains of NSW. Pomona is her second solo exhibition at Everglades Gallery.
In Roman Mythology, Pomona refers to the goddess of fruit trees, orchards, fruitful abundance, plenty and gardens.
Coincidentally, Ros began her married life at Pomona, a then flourishing fruit growing settlement between Broken Hill and Wentworth on the banks of the Darling River in far western NSW.
She has named her new exhibition ‘Pomona’, in response to that time out West, and to this more recent time living in Leura, where she began painting ‘seriously’ just before the Covid pandemic.
A lifelong love of growing things in her many gardens, from childhood to the present, finds expression in much of her painting. This abundance is not only found in subject matter. Ros readily acknowledges the joys found in the absorbing process itself, the many new relationships forged throughout Australia and beyond, and the surprising opportunities given her, such as showing her work in both regional and metropolitan exhibitions and particularly in this exhibition, at Everglades House & Gardens, a place dear to her heart.
All works are for sale and proceeds support the work of the National Trust (NSW).
While you’re visiting, be sure to take a stroll through the stunning Paul Sorensen-designed gardens, enjoy sweeping views of the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, explore the Art Deco house and make time for a delicious Devonshire Tea in the Everglades House & Gardens tea rooms.
Exhibition is included in a valid General Entry ticket.
