View a stunning exhibition of 1930s photographs taken of Everglades House & Gardens by Harold Cazneaux on display within the recently restored Art Deco house.
The photographic work of Harold Cazneaux (1878–1953) is noted for its ability to capture the beauty of the natural world. He was also a celebrated photographer of architecture and interiors.
Cazneaux was commissioned by the original owners Henri and Una Van De Velde to photograph Everglades in the 1930-40s. This series of stunning photographs by Cazneaux also featured in ‘The Home’ and ‘Home Beautiful’ magazines of the times and are integral to how the house is now understood and appreciated.
Cazneaux’s photographs also provide a snapshot into the lives of the Van de Velde’s and their personal styles.
The National Trust holds a number of the original Cazneaux photographic albums in its archives, which have guided the recent conservation works to the house. The exhibition will feature original archival material alongside large format reproductions of Cazneaux’s work.
