View unique works forged from the earth by Clare Delaney, set against the raw beauty of a World Heritage-listed backdrop.
Clare’s recent artistic journey delves into the connection between her creative spirit and the beauty inherent in her natural surroundings. ‘Finding Home’ is inspired by the natural and continuous life – decay cycle. Clare, Blue Mountain’s gardener and artist employs soil, natural and conventional art materials to visualise this process.
Clare integrates foraged and recycled materials, natural inks derived from avocado seeds and coreopsis flowers, with traditional mediums like acrylic paint, charcoal, and graphite. The result is a series of contemporary landscapes that breathe with a vibrant and unique energy.
To bring this life affirming process to the surface Clare has buried paper and canvas in the mulch and soil of Everglades and her own home garden. This burial invited subterranean creatures to collaborate, leaving life-affirming imprints from their eating, staining, and organic growth. After unearthing the works, Clare responded to the soil’s choreography with an array of mixed media, creating a dance between human expression and the natural world. Clare has also completed a series of paintings inspired by the Everglades whilst waiting for the soil creatures to do their work.
Clare is concerned with living more lightly in her environment and finding new ways to create art which impacts less on the environment. This exhibition will show how she is finding and incorporating more natural, recycled and repurposed materials into her work.
Visitors to Finding Home are invited to participate in a drop-in art space to create their own works using a curated selection of natural and recycled materials.
