Holding Ground examines how localised landscape values can inform and enrich critical dialogue on humanity’s relationship with the environment amid escalating ecological concerns.
Holding Ground is a timely project as the world lurches towards an environmental eclipse. The exhibition will reflect how localised landscape values have the potential to open a wiser, urgent discussion on the fate of Mother Earth and our place in it. It is time now to put an end to climate change denial and confront the looming climate catastrophe in front of us.
The exhibition focuses on the state on New South Wales with a selection of paintings, ceramics, sculpture, photography and moving images that focus on the disparate state of the region’s natural systems along with the impact of unfettered industrialisation.
The collection of works will reveal the rich inter-connections arising from the demanding business of processing physical space in today’s challenging environment. Works will be selected from leading Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists with strong connections to various regions of New South Wales.
The aim of Holding Ground is to compel viewers to re-think and look more closely into the complex makeup of the places they inhabit: places that sustain the fragile web of life. The future is here: The exhibition is a timely recognition of what matters and what needs to be held close.
