Open Days at Woodford Academy

Visit the oldest complex of colonial buildings in the Blue Mountains at Woodford Academy's monthly open days.

 

Built originally as a Roadside Inn in the 1830s, the property has had a multi-layered history, operating over the years as a gentleman’s residence, guest house, boarding house and from 1907 to 1936, a private classics college run by John McManamey.

It is now a museum that offers not only a unique glimpse of colonial life in the Blue Mountains but also an insight into the current Blue Mountains community through an innovative program of site-specific art events, performances and talks.

21 February: Artist in Residence Talk

Meet Artist in Residence Anke Stäcker, an urban photographer storyteller who transforms urban streets - particularly overlooked or deserted areas - into emotionally charged, subjective narratives through her photography. This successful program opens with the first presentation at 1pm and the house will be open for tours throughout the day.

21 March: Women of Woodford

Dr Carolyn Williams, life member of the Blue Mountains Conservation Society, will give a talk on Woodford-born naturalist, historian, botanist, artist, and author Isobel Bowden (pictured), a pioneering conservationist who helped raise awareness and protect the unique flora of the World Heritage–listed Blue Mountains National Park.

16 May: International Museum Day

International Museum Day acknowledges the importance of Museums to our culture and society. Make a day of it and explore local National Trust sites throughout the Blue Mountains including the Woodford Academy, Norman Lindsay Gallery, and Everglades House & Gardens.
