Enjoy an exclusive tour of the Capella Sydney hotel, located in the heritage-listed sandstone building that formerly housed the Department of Education.
The golden sandstone façade of the heritage-listed former Department of Education building welcomes you on an expert-led tour exploring the site’s rich history, architecture and interiors.
Designed in the early 20th century by Government Architect George McRae, the building’s imposing form reflected the importance of public education. Together with the neighbouring Department of Lands building, the two sandstone landmarks formed a distinguished civic precinct on Bridge Street.
Following its transformation into a luxury boutique hotel, a team of architects, historians, designers and artisans worked to preserve and interpret the site’s heritage.
Today, visitors can discover this history through displays and specially commissioned artworks by Capella Sydney and The Lands by Capella, bringing the story of these remarkable buildings to life.
