Step into the heart of creativity at Pier 4/5, an iconic landmark of Sydney Harbour in the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct. Discover the rich colonial past of this historic site at The Rocks and explore its transformation from a working port store to the vibrant home of Sydney Theatre Company (STC).

During this special event, you will gain a rare insight into the evolution and present-day usage of the space.

Highlights include:

  • In an exclusive opportunity for National Trust (NSW), you will meet with STC archivist and uncover the fascinating history of Pier 4 and its remarkable journey to becoming a cultural cornerstone
  • Hear how Elizabeth Butcher, administrator at NIDA in 1979, discovered the derelict finger wharves at Walsh Bay and used a special law to allow Pier 4/5 to be restored and become Sydney Theatre Company’s place of residence
  • Learn why the theatre is not located at the end of the Wharf
  • Lift the curtain on how stage productions go from script to performance. Meet members of the production meat who will share behind-the-scenes stories and reveal the craft, collaboration and creative energy required to bring a play to life
