The 2026 National Trust (NSW) Heritage Forum brings together heritage experts and the community to discuss the major issues facing heritage and conservation in NSW.
At a time of extreme pressure from multiple angles, the National Trust believes that heritage management should be more than a compliance-driven, box-ticking exercise. This forum will bring into focus the many benefits of meaningful heritage conservation and the ways these concepts need to be incorporated into the planning system – not removed from it.
Ahead of next year’s State Election, this forum at the National Trust Centre will involve a series of lectures, workshops and panel discussions led by industry experts to help bring into focus the matters of most concern.
The full-day program includes an engaging keynote by the National Trust’s Conservation Director, David Burdon, plus a thought-provoking panel discussion. Participants can also select one breakout session spotlighting current heritage issues:
- Breakout A: Local heritage – achieving a consistent approach across NSW and identifying the minimum standards that need to be met.
- Breakout B: Approval processes – questioning if heritage is regulated, or relevant. Explore what is needed to make a good heritage decision.
- Breakout C: Community input – ensuring useful input can lead to meaningful results. Discover the best ways to provide community input into the heritage process and ensure that meaningful outcomes are achieved.
With morning tea and lunch provided, and time for networking drinks in the afternoon, the 2026 National Trust Heritage Forum will provide the opportunity to have your say and discuss the key heritage issues current in NSW.
