The National Trust cares for one of Australia’s largest art collections outside government institutions. Within our galleries, gardens and house museums, artworks do far more than decorate a room. They reveal the tastes, travels and lives of the people who once lived there, helping us understand each place in richer and more meaningful ways.
However, some of these rare and precious artworks are now at risk. Light, mould and the natural conditions of heritage buildings can cause fading and deterioration that may become irreversible without specialist conservation. Frames and sculptures are vulnerable too, with age and changing conditions causing cracks and damage to fragile surfaces and finishes.
Your gift can make a difference:
- $250 contributes to colour restoration, reviving faded or discoloured artworks
- $500 provides UV-resistant glass, protecting vulnerable works from damaging light exposure
- $1,000 treats mould, helping prevent further deterioration of fragile works
- $5,000 helps fund specialist conservation for significant artworks
- $30,000 safeguards a significant artwork preserving its place in our cultural legacy.
