Each year National Trust members can nominate a worthy recipient for the prestigious Margaret Feilman Medal.

Named after Margaret Feilman OBE, a founding member of the National Trust of Western Australia, this prestigious award recognises individuals or organisations who demonstrate meritorious achievement or service to heritage in Western Australia.

First established in 1999, the Margaret Feilman Medal is managed by the National Trust. By nominating someone for the Margaret Feilman Medal, you are acknowledging their strong commitment to the pursuit of valuing Western Australia’s heritage.

Recipients are announced at the National Trust of Western Australia’s Annual General Meeting in front of an audience of industry peers and members.

Margaret Feilman OBE (1921–2013)

The medal’s namesake, Margaret Anne Feilman OBE, was Perth’s first qualified town planner and Australia’s first female town planner. She was a dedicated advocate for identifying and protecting Western Australia’s cultural and natural heritage through conservation and education.
Margaret was driven by a creative mind and a passion for the environment and art. In 1959, after decades in architecture and town planning, she set out to help establish the state branch of the National Trust of Australia. Margaret served on its Council and finished as Chairman in 1990. Margaret was a pioneer in architecture and town planning and her contributions to Western Australia are enormous.
