May 2023 Heritage Walk
The walk will visit many of the sites on the Lyneham and North O’Connor Heritage Trail including the Lyneham Shops, the Tolldale Homestead site, the 13th Canberra Scout Hall, Jandura Park, the Lyneham Wetlands, St Ninian’s Uniting Church and Old Canberra Inn. The sites in the Heritage Trail illustrate the phases of the early European settlement of the area and later suburban development of this part of Canberra. Participants will also be able to view the large Community Map installed at the Lyneham Shops which highlights the heritage trail and local heritage sites in the suburb. Along the way the Lyneham Community Association (LCA) will talk about its efforts to raise awareness of the history of the suburb as a way of building community connection to the area. The walk will be about 5km long.
Walk leader – Gordon McAllister, committee member of the LCA and long-time resident, with support from other LCA members.
