Member Voting Rights FAQ
- Who is eligible to vote at a Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM)?
Only financial NTSA members who are affiliated with the relevant Branch and are 18 years of age or older may vote at a Branch AGM.
Examples:
- A family or household membership that includes two adult members provides one vote for each adult member.
- Members under the age of 18 are not eligible to vote.
- Life Members are eligible to vote, provided they are affiliated with the relevant Branch.
You may be asked to supply your membership card or other proof of membership at an AGM.
- Who is eligible to vote at the NTSA State Annual General Meeting (AGM)?
Any person who:
- Is a financial member of the National Trust of South Australia; and
- Is 18 years of age or older
is entitled to vote at the State AGM.
Examples:
- A family or household membership that includes two registered adult members provides one vote for each adult member.
- Members under the age of 18 are not eligible to vote.
You may be asked to supply your membership card or other proof of membership at an AGM.
- Can I appoint a proxy to vote on my behalf?
No. Proxy voting is not permitted at either Branch AGMs or the State AGM.
- Is there a cut-off date for voting eligibility?
There is currently no specific membership cut-off date for voting rights. Members who are financial at the time of the meeting are entitled to vote.
Please note that membership processing occurs during normal business hours, Monday to Friday.
- What is the difference between a Branch Committee Meeting and a Branch Meeting?
Branches may hold both:
- Branch Committee Meetings, which are attended by elected committee members; and
- Branch Meetings, which may be attended by branch-affiliated NTSA members.
Financial members affiliated with the Branch are entitled to vote at Branch Meetings in accordance with the Constitution and Branch rules.
- Where can I find the date of the next AGM?
Details of upcoming AGMs are published on the National Trust of South Australia website and communicated to members as required.
- How are Council elections conducted?
Please see 3.4 of the National Trust Rules. If the number of candidates for Council exceed the number of vacancies, eligible members will be notified that a ballot is required. Ballot papers and voting instructions will be distributed to members.
- What is the quorum for AGMs?
A Branch AGM may only proceed if a quorum is present.
The quorum is:
Five (5) members or 20% of the affiliated Branch membership, whichever is greater.
For the State AGM, a quorum is 20 members.
