Walking, Talking History in the Bellarine

Celebrate our National Trust classified Museum and the local history of the Bellarine. Learn its stories with a guided walk in Drysdale and self-drive tours of Drysdale and Portarlington. Attend a mystery history talk at the Museum and view our latest exhibitions. Music, Devonshire tea, Quiz with prizes.

In the late 1840s, pastoral properties on the Bellarine were subdivided into wheat fields and then smaller farms growing onions, potato, asparagus, and dairies when the railway arrived. It was the major supplier of food to the Port Phillip District. As the population grew, towns prospered.

Come see the historical buildings in Drysdale and Portarlington and hear their stories through well-documented walking and driving guides. View the Old Mill, Grand Hotel, school houses, elegant churches, simple cottages, early commercial and other establishments. Enter the Museum and enjoy new exhibitions of artefacts from an earlier, almost forgotten age. Make time to hear a talk about a historical mystery. See PowerPoint images of historic Bellarine. Socialise and exchange tales with local historians over food and music.
