Vegemite through history

Learn the history behind the famous Australian ICON - Vegemite. Nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees Shire, Victoria is the birth place of inventor Cyril Callister. The recently opened museum showcases a collection of memorabilia, historical items, merchandise and two art exhibits. You will be a very happy little Vegemite once you have enjoyed this unique experience.

The offering for the 2024 Heritage Festival includes admission to the museum, a cuppa and locally made Chocolate Vegemite Oreo, a video narrated by grandson Jamie Callister telling the history behind his grandfathers invention, and an opportunity to see the memorabilia collection hundreds of pieces donated to the museum from Vegemite lovers around the world.

The museum currently houses two art exhibits:

Historical Beaufort – a collection of the beautiful old buildings in Beaufort sketched by year 9 Beaufort Secondary College and then painted in Vegemite

Vegemite thru History – Six re-purposed 44 gallon drums painted to reflect Six labels from the 100 year history of Vegemite. Three local artists have created something very unique.

To top of the visit we have two locally painted “selfie” boards that you can share some photos with family and friends later on.
