There’s More to This Story: Diverse Histories at the Shrine

Join us for a captivating talk that uncovers the narratives of Australian Defence Force personnel and their families from culturally diverse backgrounds, as well as the poignant tales of immigrant Victorians who found a new home in Australia after being displaced by conflict.

Reflecting Victoria’s rich history of cultural diversity, There’s More to this Story is a new addition to the Galleries of Remembrance where stories of Australian Defence Force personnel, or their families, from culturally different backgrounds are highlighted. It also shines a light on the experiences of immigrant Victorians displaced by conflict for whom Australia is now home.

In this talk, one of the team behind the project will share these stories and their link to service and sacrifice. Some have come as war brides, some as refugees, some have been interned as ‘enemy aliens’, while others have defied the authorities to serve their new country. Their experiences differ as much as the countries and cultures they come from.

After the talk, attendees will be invited to explore the Galleries independently and discover further stories. One of the team will be on hand to answer any questions or provide more background.
