The Life of a Lighthouse Keepers Assistant

Join John Harrison as he imaginatively reincarnates the character of his great great Grandfather George Swanston, a Lighthouse Keepers Assistant on Warrnambool’s Middle island between 1861 and 1864.

As John Harrison details this important part of Warrnambool’s maritime history you will learn about the history of his Great Great Grandfather George Swanston and the trials and tribulations of the Lighthouse Keepers job for him and his family, particularly his wife. One can only imagine the isolation of island life and the hardship experienced during his 3 year tenure. Furthermore John will tell of the unlikely connections between historical events of the South West Coast and people in his family tree connecting people from the past to those who are helping keep these stories alive today..

The prices for this event are general admission prices for entry to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village. Patrons can experience all daily offerings with their ticket which is valid for 2 days.
