Richmond Cemeteries Tour

Discover two of the Hawkesbury's lesser known, historic cemeteries as part of Heritage Festival. The Hawkesbury is unique having numerous cemeteries located in the area. We will visit the Old Presbyterian Cemetery followed by the Catholic and Methodist cemeteries in Richmond.

Journey through time and discover some of the unique stories behind the headstones. Starting with the Presbyterian Cemetery which overlooks the floodplains of Richmond, this small site was established in the mid-19th century and has just over 100 headstones recording nearly 300 names. We will then head up the road to the old Catholic and Methodist sections which now form part of the Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, adjacent to the RAAF Base. We will look at some of the headstones recording recognizable pioneers as well as some of the unfamiliar names, looking at the grand edifices as well as the more simple monuments. We will view the poignant verses plus the tragedies behind some of the deaths, that affected individuals, families and the community, during the 19th & 20th centuries.
