REBELLIOUS, RESOURCEFUL AND RESILIENT! NARRYNA’S CONVICT WOMEN

REBELLIOUS, RESOURCEFUL AND RESILIENT! NARRYNA’S CONVICT WOMEN.
A fascinating tour, providing real insight into the lives of Tasmanian convict women.

It’s easy to imagine, from visiting Narryna today, that the colonists who lived there led a very comfortable ‘upstairs’ existence, while the convict servants were constantly at work, cooking, cleaning and caring for children. But convicts were often quite unsuited to meet the requirements of domestic service, so ‘mistresses’ including Elizabeth Haig and Sarah Walker, also experienced many challenges in managing the household. On this tour, our focus will be on the convict women – especially those assigned to the Haig family. These women were no shrinking violets – but were Rebellious, Resourceful and Resilient!
