Preserving the past in jars

Learn the age-old skills of preserving food with jam and chutney making. Connect with the memories of the kitchens of parents and grandparents at a time when nearly every household had pantries filled with jars of preserved food.

The members of Altona’s Country Women’s Association will introduce you to simple jams and delicious chutney or relish making. Take home a booklet of the recipes along with a jar or two of the goods made on the day. Making jams and chutneys can be simple, cost effective and fun! Let us show you the way to keep the past alive with preserving so you can keep the traditions alive for the next generation while enjoying the delicious condiments you have made yourself.
