The Charlton RSL Sub-branch is proud to present a very special event that will highlight the connections to Charlton and two World War One service personnel. The stories of the recently recovered remains of local Digger Pte. M.J.Claxton and others, plus the amazing life of local hero 'Pompey Elliott

In this unique event two acclaimed speakers will visit Charlton to provide vivid talks of special interest on related themes.

At 11:00am Lambis Englezos will speak about “Finding the Missing”. Lambis stunned the world when he spearheaded the remarkable discovery of mass graves containing hundreds of Australian soldiers who had been “missing” at Fromelles for a century. Displaying exceptional ingenuity and perseverance to locate these previously unknown graves, his years of dedicated advocacy were spectacularly vindicated when the graves were discovered exactly where he had been maintaining they were all along.

After lunch, award-winning biographer Ross McMullin will follow with a talk about Pompey Elliott, a charismatic, controversial and outstandingly successful commander. Born and growing up in Charlton, he went on to become Australia’s most famous fighting general. Ross is an enthralling storyteller, and he’ll use Pompey’s own words to bring this extraordinary character back to life.
