History Walk and Talk – Victorian Grandeur

Join local historian Jeff Atkinson for a walk through some of south Carlton’s most picturesque and historic streets, and enjoy some of its grandest buildings.

Carlton has probably the best examples in Australia of the eloquent ‘boom era’ architecture of the late 19th century, complete with English style squares, and generously designed streets of south Carlton, laid out in the 1850’s by Robert Hoddle, who also designed the grid of Melbourne’s central business district.

An easy-paced walk on mostly flat ground, however, sensible shoes are recommended for some uneven surfaces, as well as a hat, and water.
