Close to Home

Local Vincent artist Olive Cheng explores some local places close to her heart in her latest series Close to Home. The collection of 25 odd wood burnt portraits of sites within the City of Vincent will be on display in a special exhibition at the City's Local History Centre.

The places showcased in this series of artwork are a personal celebration of the local places which are dear to the artist, and the overall narrative weaving the pieces together is the story of her very happy wedding day which was all within the City of Vincent.

Close to Home explores place and memory in the form of buildings, but also the essence of cherished memories and botanical characters which frame our experiences of place, much like details within our memories themselves.

Olive Cheng trained as a landscape architect and later as a primary school teacher. She loves creating bespoke wood burnings and painting public murals (many can be spotted around Vincent!). Olive also enjoys running artist workshops to children in schools and the wider community.
