Bringing the Past into the Present.

Tarella Cottage was built in the 1890s. As the family changed its purpose from holiday house to full-time residence, additions were made. Come along and see what's been done to the original cottage over those early years. You can explore Tarella Cottage, the Old Kitchen and the Research Centre.

Then and now: we learn about the past through old records, old photos and old items. Come along and explore our 1890s cottage. See how people lived 125 years ago. And after you’ve explored Tarella Cottage, come across the lawn into the Hobby’s Reach Resource Centre and see how we use modern tools to clarify our understanding of the past. 19th Century and 21st century are side-by-side, working together to enable us to comprehend where we started and where we’re heading. So come along and visit us. You can even bring your own picnic and enjoy it in our beautiful grounds or enjoy our old-fashioned soup.
