ART by SURVEYORS & SURVEYORS in ART

An intriguing talk, with morning tea, which will showcase many connections between artworks and surveyors, including world renowned and lesser known artists who were also surveyors, plus be delighted with an array of artworks featuring surveyors, many painted by some of our early surveyors.

The most well-known painting in the world would be the Mona Lisa but what is much less known is that its creator, Leonardo da Vinci, was not just a Renaissance master artist and prolific inventor, he was also a land surveyor! Another artwork well recognised is Whistler’s Mother and Whistler’s father was also a famous railway surveyor engaged by Russian Tsar Nicholas I to survey the Moscow to St. Petersburg Railway.

Many notable characters from our early history, such as Sir Thomas Mitchell, George Evans and Colonel William Light, were accomplished artists as well as surveyors.

Come and see an incredible gallery of artworks by surveyors from the early Australian colonies as well as images of this noble profession at work in some most picturesque surroundings.
