Ranging from caring for historic buildings to greeting guests at iconic heritage sites, our volunteers bring history to life across our wonderful state.

What Volunteering Involves 

Volunteering with the National Trust of South Australia is as diverse as our heritage. 

Roles vary depending on the site, your skills and your interests and may include: 

  • Heritage Site Guides & Hosts 

Enjoy welcoming visitors or sharing stores as a guide on a tor at our heritage-listed sites 

  • Gardening & Groundskeeping 

Assist in maintain our stunning gardens and landscapes that surround our properties 

  • Event Support 

Assist with community events, fundraisers and special exhibitions 

  • Collections & Archives 

Work behind the scenes cataloguing, preserving and researching historic items 

  • Administration & Office Support 

Help with data entry, communication and day-to-day operations.

What’s required to become a volunteer 

You don’t need to be historian or professional gardener to volunteer-just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help.  We provide: 

  • Induction and training 
  • Ongoing support and supervision 
  • Safety guidelines and insurance overage 
  • A flexible schedule based on your availability 

You may be required to provide: 

  • A current Working with Children Check  
  • A National Police Check {conditions apply} 
  • A short application and reference check
