The Moonta Mines precinct is one of the State’s premiere heritage attractions, and while we acknowledge recent difficult decisions have led to upset in the community, National Trust South Australia is committed to ensuring these significant assets can be enjoyed by the local community and visitors alike, long into the future. We have been working hard to reconnect with local staff and volunteers to bring the site back to its full potential. Local knowledge and experience are a big part of what makes this place special; this will continue to guide how the site operates. Any money made on site will go straight back into caring for the buildings and keeping them open, so the stories of Moonta Mines can continue to be shared. National Trust South Australia is thrilled to announce The Moonta Mines Sweet Shop and Museum will reopen on weekends from Easter, led by a team of dedicated local volunteers and staff. There will be guided tour opportunities on Saturday, April 4, and an Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 5, with working groups also commencing in the next few weeks to shape future tours and refresh the museum displays. The Miner’s Cottage garden is open, with set hours to be confirmed soon, with options to reopen other attractions being explored. Based on past visitation patterns, initial opening times across the site will be weekend-focused, while we work towards a steady and sustainable way forward.
