National Trust Funding Reinstated

State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall has committed to refunding the National Trust if
elected in 2014.

The National Trust of South Australia looks after historic buildings, history collections, and natural reserves. There are over 100 historic places in South Australia.

The National Trust has been struggling to care for South Australia’s heritage buildings in recent years after the Weatherill Labor Government ceased any funding for the community based non-government organisation.

“The National Trust looks after our most important heritage assets, some of which are
actually owned by the State Government, yet they rely entirely on membership and
donations,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“The State Liberals will re-fund the National Trust by $70,000 a year for three years to allow them to focus on maintaining our state’s heritage assets.

“South Australia needs better priorities to get our state back on track.”

State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall’s decision to reinstate funding for the National Trust comes in the lead up to South Australia’s History Festival.

“This is just one way that the State Liberals are investing in our state’s history and ensuring our heritage buildings are preserved.”
