It has been 100 years since the closing of the Moonta Mines in November 2023.
The Moonta Mines was once the “backbone” of the economy of the state of South Australia. Many people have a connection to the Cornish Miners and their families, who settled in Moonta in the 1800s and led to the town being named “Australia’s Little Cornwall”.
In recognition of this historic event the Moonta Branch Committee are proud to present a display (in photos) of the story of the Moonta Mines, Cornish Miners, and their families.
The display will be set up in the Moonta Mines Museum, Verran Terrace, Moonta Mines for the whole month of November.
