The Kingston National Trust would like to invite you to the launch of the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse Conservation Appeal, which has been set up through NTSA State Office.
Guests will enjoy complimentary wine and nibbles while listening to prominent SA corrosion specialists describe the challenges in the preservation of this lighthouse. A 2023-released short film about the lives of Scottish light keepers and their families has been specially offered for this event, and the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse lens will shine out later in the evening.
This old girl is in desperate need of a face lift. It is not surprising!
She has spent all her life exposed to the harsh elements and now sits on the seafront at Kingston.
Her cast iron structure is in pretty good shape for her age. After all, she is 151 years old, but it takes continuous attention to keep her that way.
Every 10 years or so she must be totally stripped back and repainted . A team of specialists needs to be brought in who can scale her heights and meticulously do the job. These specialists don’t come cheap and with something as precious and unique as our Cape Jaffa Lighthouse, corners can’t be cut.
We all want her to survive the ravages of time and the elements looking her best for locals and visitors to enjoy into the future.
Come and join her friends, admirers, and supporters for a social outing with a difference.
