Where did Hume and Hovell really terminate their expedition?

Author Lance Pritchard presents his research into the Hume and Hovell expedition focusing on the termination point at Port Phillip. His research involved very a detailed examination of primary evidence from Hovell's journal. Much of the material examined has been ignored by researchers in the past.

The information presented by Lance Pritchard during this talk is drawn from research showing that the past narrative of the expedition terminating at Corio Bay is incorrect, and that the often talked about feud between the two explorers probably never occurred.

Lance’s book Hume and Hovell Expedition Termination discusses the disparity between Hume’s recollection of the expedition, written 31 years later, and Hovell’s journal kept during the expedition as well as Hume’s own map. Clearly some of the information must be incorrect.

Lance explored not only primary source documents, but the research of others. He considered documents or parts of documents that had been dismissed and also the potential reason the information was set aside. Part of this exploration included consideration of the information presented in newspapers of the time.

Lance is an experienced speaker, and his talk includes a visual presentation of maps and highlights of his research.
