Unearthing the heritage farm around Tanilba House

Unearth the 1831 farm around Port Stephens oldest residence Tanilba House sited on a rocky headland overlooking the beautiful waterways of the Inner Port. Find out how the Caswell family and many convicts created the buildings and rock wall gardens and animal enclosures from the headland itself.

Explore the rocky foreshores, promontories and water views now parks feeling the layers of history around you in the Aboriginal presence on country, the creation of the pioneer farm from the earth itself by convicts and its later embellishment into one of the early resorts then housing settlements by Henry F. Halloran in 1920s and 1930s.

Hear how we would like to protect the spirit of the place into the future with a conservation zone.
